Educator Preparation

First initiated as the Colorado State Normal School in 1889, UNC has education in its DNA. It is legislatively designated as the state’s primary institution for degree programs at all levels that prepare educators. We provide future teachers and educators with a foundation to work with diverse student populations across multiple subject areas in a multitude of settings.

In addition to more than 30 programs leading to initial teaching license and added endorsement at both graduate and undergraduate levels, we offer 6 school Special Service Provider programs and 4 school Administrator programs at the graduate levels.

Be A Teacher

Leading Colorado in Teacher Education.

As a student in teacher education, you’re following in the footsteps of the best teachers in Colorado, and you’ll be well-prepared to blaze your own trails nationally.

UNC offers the broadest array of teacher education programs leading to licensure in Colorado. A teaching license is the official recognition by a state governmental agency that an individual has met state-mandated requirements and is approved to practice as a licensed educator in the state. At UNC, students are prepared to obtain a teaching license at the undergraduate or graduate level. UNC also offers additional teaching endorsements for those who hold teacher licensure in Colorado and other states and countries.

  • More than 25 percent of all teachers who win the Colorado Department of Education’s Teacher of the Year award graduated from UNC
  • UNC has a national reputation for quality online education, and was ranked eighth nationally for our online graduate programs in education, the top rated school in the state of Colorado
